A new Government report has promised an extra 1,000 jobs worth $160 million a year thats $160,000 for each new job in the next three years as the NDIS expands.
The NDIA Market Position Statement (MPS) predicts the disability support sector will be worth $350M by 2019, with the number of ACT participants to hit 6900.
Most importantly, an additional 1800 local residents living with a permanent and significant disability will receive funded supports a 35 per cent increase, Minister for Social Services Christian Porter said.
The ACT currently has 5,000 people enlisted in the scheme which went nation-wide in July this year, despite widespread IT problems with its MyPlace portal that led to some participants going unpaid.
But with disability providers already struggling to find workers, will we see an exodus of aged care workers from aged care?
We enquired with the Department of Social Services about how the Government planned to fill these jobs. A spokesperson said the Commonwealths Sector Development Fund has allocated over $37 million to help NDIS providers grow their workforce, but it was up to employers to recruit and train suitably qualified staff.
