New entrant plans $100M beachfront ‘vertical village’ for NSW North Coast

The Bachrach Naumburger Group wants to build the seven-storey co-located village and aged care development in Coffs Harbour on a vacant block of land on Arthur and York Streets that it has owned since the 1950s.

The developer, which owns the nearby Park Beach Plaza and Park Beach HomeBase, is proposing 183 independent living units – with ocean views from the upper storeys – and a 120-bed residential aged care facility.

The design is by aged care architects Boffa Robertson Group.

GM Steve Gooley told the local paper that the village would be constructed in three stages over four to five years and meet a shortage of retirement options in the area.

“Coffs Harbour and the North Coast in general is yet to experience an upmarket retirement development of this nature and size,” he said.

Mr Gooley adds that they already have a waiting list for the development, which is just 100m from Park Beach and will be sold off-plan.

There has also been strong interest from Armidale and Tamworth from people who have holidayed in Coffs Harbour, with potential for attracting retirees moving from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane too.
