Bundaberg Regional Council has approved a new 244-home Kensington Gardens retirement village, after a DA was lodged last year.
The village will be built in five stages, with stage one comprising 39 two- and three-bedroom homes plus community facilities, and stages two through five adding 47, 41, 64 and 53 houses.
Designed by Keystone Architects and built on 48.5 hectares of land currently used for sugar cane production, the Bundaberg site will include amenities such as a men’s shed; two pools; tennis and pickleball courts; a health and wellbeing centre; a golf driving range as well as a chipping and putting range; a bocce and yoga lawn; and a community produce garden.
The village will also have space for residents to store recreational vehicles, with the design of each house taking RV parking into account.
Developers Tony and Marlene Green sent the DA to Council for approval in February 2021 after receiving a preliminary thumbs-up; Kensington Gardens already operates two villages in Shepparton, Victoria and Albury, NSW.
