Oatlands Golf Club lodges DA for contentious seniors’ housing

Oatlands Golf Club in Sydney’s north is pushing ahead with controversial plans for a Mirvac seniors’ living development, with a development application now before a planning panel.

The seven-building development, which would comprise 155 seniors and disability independent living units split between 141 apartments and 14 townhouses, has been scaled back from the 193-unit proposal that was narrowly accepted by Oatlands Golf Club members last May; it will also include a new clubhouse and 405 parking spaces.

The Sydney Central City Planning Panel will review the application, which has met with opposition from locals over its potential impact on the community, as well as the golf club’s decision to prioritise it over a memorial garden for four children killed near the site by a drunk driver in 2020.

Federal Labor MP for Parramatta Andrew Charlton (pictured) is set to hold a meeting with residents on Friday 27 January about the proposal.

“I am disappointed that the Oatlands Golf Club has decided to continue with lodging the Development Application without properly consulting the local community,”
he told Parra News.

“There are now over 500 signatures on the Save Oatlands petition, with many signatories frustrated by the lack of consultation and worried about how this high-rise will affect the family-friendly character of Oatlands.”

This is not Mirvac’s first Over 55s development built in conjunction with a club – The Langlee is slated to open at Waverley Bowling Club on Sydney’s North Shore this year.
