Only one aged care provider has received a reduction from Brisbane Council’s new aged care development incentives: Brisbane Times

Just one facility has so far qualified for a reduction targeting aged care and student accommodation of $306,413. This compares to nine student accommodation developments in Brisbane.

Another 24 student housing projects are eligible to apply for the reduction once construction starts.

The cuts to infrastructure charges for aged care and student accommodation developers were introduced on September 1, 2016, and run until December 31, 2019.

Under the incentives, the combined Brisbane Council and Queensland Urban Utilities infrastructure bill for a one-bedroom unit would be cut from about $18,000 to $4,560.

Could the resident and community opposition against a number of planned village and aged care developments in Brisbane be holding back construction?
