Opportunity for retirement living strong in Australia but the sector is missing

Against the backdrop of runaway sales and penetration in NZ, the village sector in Australia still hasn’t found its share of support.

Our July/August DCM Prospect Profile research, conducted by AOR, found across 2,207 non-residents that 20 to 30% of all people aged 60+ considered a move from the family home last year.

However just 4% ‘extremely seriously’ considered a retirement village and another 8% ‘quite likely’ considered a village. This is despite the challenges of COVID, which could explain the 2% increase in ‘extremely likely’ since we surveyed in 2018.

It is important to reflect that 25% of all village operators are selling extremely well across old and new stock. The answer lies in their local presence, which will rest on the performance of the Village Manager, and local marketing.

We will be distributing our Prospect Profile research report in the next two weeks along with a village marketing handbook based on our 12 years of research and our villages.com.au analytics. If you have an interest in receiving the report please email me HERE.
