QLD: Arcare’s application for 90-bed aged care facility in Noosa attracts 96 objections

Noosa Council received 109 submissions in total about the proposed development, which would see the two-storey facility built opposite the Noosa Hospital, with most labelling the plan an overdevelopment of the site that would impact on parking and be out of character with the local area.

The 6,742m2 site is currently home to nine houses and two vacant lots and one neighbour says he can’t understand why the Council refused a previous application for a medical and business centre on the site.

“At least that would have operated 9-5, whereas an aged care centre will have to operate 24/7,” he said.

However, Arcare says the facility will help to fill a 250-bed shortfall predicted by 2026 for the area.

The provider does have another ace up their sleeve too – they already have the allocated bed licenses from the Federal Government.
