Residents raise concerns over retirement village proposal, part of Steller’s $430m Mornington Peninsula (VIC) development

Consumer advocacy: The 120-bed retirement community intended for a property near Mornington Racing Club may cause major safety and traffic issues, according to local residents.

As we reported here, the community is one of four new retirement living projects that Steller has proposed for construction along the Mornington Peninsula – an hour south of Melbourne CBD.

Residents told The Herald Sun that the infrastructure in the area isn’t adequate to cater for such a large and sudden influx of people, also noting the presence of electronic safety gates operating at both ends of the proposed site on Roberts Road.

But Steller senior official Andrew Bromley explained that the company had proposed to relocate the electronic gate to a site 300m to the north of its existing location, enabling residents to enter and exit the site without needing to go through the gate.

The four planned retirement communities are still in the early stages of application.
