The Australian Research Council (ARC) research project investigating independent seniors
living alternatives, has identified that 10.8% to 12.4% of Gold Coast residents aged 65
and over live in a retirement community, twice as many as the 4.35% reported in the 2006
census. The ABS uses the Retirement Village Act as its definition where ARC included
retirement communities and manufactured home parks in the $1.5 million ARC Linkage
Grant study. The study is partly funded by retirement village operators.
Shared Care in villages: Canberra cracks the door open
A major step forward for the Shared Care model. The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing will convene online workshops with Support at Home providers to help design a pooled funding trial, slated for 2026, backed by $5.2 million in funding over three years announced by the Federal Government in December 2024.
