Victoria recorded six new cases yesterday, bringing the state’s total to 206.

This is a 36% drop on the 326 active cases reported at the same time last week.

Of the active cases, 58 were linked to aged care outbreaks.

Metropolitan Melbourne’s 14-day rolling average dropped below 10 to 9.9, down from 10.6 the day before, and remained unchanged on 0.3 in regional Victoria.

There were two more deaths, including a woman in her 80s and a man in his 90s.

This brought the state’s death toll to 809.

And there were 16 Victorians in hospital with COVID, including two in ICU.

Active aged care outbreaks with the highest active case numbers are as follows:

• 24 active cases are currently linked to Estia Aged Care Facility Keilor (total cases: 51)
• 10 active cases are currently linked to Edenvale Manor Aged Care Facility Keilor East (total cases: 23)
• 8 active cases are currently linked to Opal Hobsons Bay Aged Care Facility (total cases: 46)
• 5 active cases are currently linked to Embracia Moonee Valley Aged Care Facility (total cases: 81)

Dates around lockdown easing remain flexible

In his daily press briefing, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said there is a degree of flexibility around the state’s targets of easing lockdown restrictions on October 19.

The Premier gave an example, saying that even if “in the last three days of the 14-day period you got 8, 10, 12 cases but they were in aged care, health workers”, restrictions could still be eased.

“In broad terms, it is possible we get a number that is higher than our target number but we have certainty and a degree of comfort about the story that sits behind those cases,” he added.
