South Australian aged care home sanctioned after uncovering an “immediate and severe risk” to residents

The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission has imposed sanctions on the Helping Hand Lealholme aged care home, 228km north of Adelaide, after it failed to meet industry standards.

During an audit the Commission found the aged care home was non-compliant in personal and clinical care and human resources, creating an “immediate and severe risk” to residents.

The aged care home has now been ordered to retrain staff and to conduct weekly teleconference meetings with the Commission.

The sanctions also prevent Helping Hand Lealholme from taking in new residents until they have been brought up to code and the sanctions are lifted.
