Sydney planning panel rejects proposal for six-storey seniors housing on waterfront Kogarah site –currently featuring one house

Nanevski Development had applied to the Georges River Council to build a 48-unit development ranging from four to six storeys with basement car parking last year, but withdrew the application after the Council ruled the bulk and scale of the development was excessive for the area.

The Sans Souci site, which adjoins the St George Motor Boast Club, is currently occupied by a two-storey house, sheds and garage.

The developers then went to the Panel to rezone the land from W2 Recreational Waterways and R2 Low Density Residential to be fully R2 and the height limit increased from a maximum of nine metres to 19.3 metres.

The Panel has sided with the Council however, which says the area is likely to keep its R2 zoning into the future otherwise “an undesirable precedent would be established under the guise of creating seniors housing.”
