Turkey starts vaccinating 90,000 aged care residents – with Chinese vaccine

Turkey has followed the lead of Israel by vaccinating every one of the 87,120 residents and staff in aged care homes across the country.

The first doses of the CoronaVac, the vaccine developed by Beijing-based biopharmaceutical company, Sinovac, started to be administered last week and are expected to be finished by week’s end.

Turkey secured three million doses of the vaccine in December before beginning the roll out on 19 January.

People who are aged over 90 and still living in their own homes will be next in line for the jab.

Since the beginning of the pandemic Turkey has recorded 2.44 million cases of COVID-19 and 25,344 deaths.
