At one o'clock today the Minister for Environment, Peter Garrett, announced the closing of the home insulation, solar hot water and heat pump rebate program, effective tonight. Installers will have seven days to claim outstanding rebates for work completed prior to close of business today. The replacement government program will commence 1 June and will pay a flat $1000 for ceiling insulation and solar hot water systems, plus $600 for heat pump systems. However the resident will need to pay upfront themselves and then make a claim for the $1000 or $600 through the Medicare system.
If you have placed orders for insulation, solar hot water systems or heat pumps you should review because the supplier will now not receive any rebate income direct from the government for any work done after today.
