Plantation Retirement Resort lodge plans for sixth village: 242 apartments on QLD’s Sunshine Coast

1 min read

Prominent Sunshine Coast developer Mal Pratt and co-directors Dale Massie and Leanne Jones have lodged code assessable plans for its sixth retirement village in the popular region of southern Queensland.

Plantation Retirement Resort has filed plans with Sunshine Coast Council for a 242-unit vertical retirement village across six buildings of varying heights, up to a maximum of 25 metres, on a 10,648msq vacant site at Sippy Downs, a suburb of Buderim. The development also includes a manager’s residence, communal spaces, recreational facilities and 380 resident car parking spaces with 28 visitor spaces.

“Each building will be constructed across six stages sequentially and will feature a mix of six distinct two- and three-bedroom unit styles,” a planning report submitted to Sunshine Coast Council by Murray and Associates (QLD) Pty Ltd on behalf of Plantation Beachside states.

“The proposal is a gated community … providing future residents security and peace of mind as they move into their retirement years.”

The unit density equates to 277 equivalent dwellings per hectare, which the operator says is compliant with the minimum 80 equivalent dwellings per hectare for the zoning.

The community would include a beach-entry pool and terrace; entertainment terrace with barbecue; kitchen and amenities; cafe/lounge; library; gym; two multi-purpose rooms; community hall with stage; reception area and staff office; and a dog park.

The application triggers assessment by the State Assessment and Referral Agency because the site would consist of more than 200 dwellings.

Plantation Retirement Resort has three operating villages in Queensland: Cotton Tree (42 one-, two- and three bedroom units over seven levels), Petrie Creek (143 units) and Morayfield, with two more under construction at Maroochydore (42 one-, two- and three bedroom units over seven levels) and Baringa.
