Police Association of South Australia launches home care business in a first

1 min read

The Police Association of South Australia has launched a new home care business, Police HomeCare Services, which will provide disability and aged care support to current and retired members and their families.

Adelaide-based home care provider Lifestyle Plus Group, which has been in operation for more than 30 years, will partner with Police HomeCare Services to deliver the service.

Police HomeCare Services will be registered under both the NDIS and My Aged Care. It will offer in-home and community disability care services including domestic support, personal care, community access, behavioral support and complex care. Initially the program will focus on Police Association of South Australia members and their families, but plans to expand to the broader community in the future.

The Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill Shorten, who launched the service on 26 April, said, "This is such a smart idea.

"Unions were established and the Police Association was established as its core function, the industrial interests of its members many years ago.

"But as we know, the industrial interests of members change over time. Not just wages and conditions and health and safety, but a proposition that there should be ongoing care for the people who care for us."

He said it's an initiative other association and employers may consider in the future. "I think it is an initiative which maybe other associations and employers and unions may look at doing in the future, but it's first been done here by Mark and the South Australian team."

Police HomeCare Services will operate under the Police Association of South Australia banner, along with Police Credit Union and Police Health.
