Politicians read The Weekly SOURCE – here’s proof
Anne Ruston

When politicians are preparing to scrutinise the Government’s aged care reforms at Senate Estimates, where do they turn?

On Wednesday (11 February), we got the answer: one place they look is The Weekly SOURCE.

During Additional Senate Estimates, Liberal Senator Anne Ruston was questioning officials about the imminent changes to AN-ACC funding that will penalise metropolitan aged care homes that fail to meet mandatory care minute targets.

She asked: “The Weekly SOURCE suggested the funding providers are likely to lose could be up to $33.41 per day. Is that correct?”

After checking his notes, Daen Dorazio, First Assistant Secretary Residential Aged Care Division at the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, replied: “Yes Senator, I can confirm that is correct.”

The article that the Senator referenced was published by The Weekly SOURCE on 30 January 2026. That piece reported only 60% of aged care homes met both total and RN care minute targets in the September 2025 quarter.

The article cited UTS Ageing Research Collaborative (UARC) analysis which showed metro aged care homes failing to meet the targets could lose funding of up to $33.41 per resident per day from 1 April, the figure the Senator quoted.

Earlier this year, Ruston’s office told The SOURCE that they would use Senate Estimates to examine the Government’s aged care reforms.

Now it’s clear, one of the ways they prepared to do that was by reading The Weekly SOURCE for the latest news, informed analysis, and bold opinions.
