The nation’s largest Not For Profit health and aged care provider says a “changing landscape of aged care” is behind its plan to redevelop the site containing St Vincent’s Private Hospital Brisbane and St Vincent's Aged Care Kangaroo Point.
Originally built in 1954, the Mt Olivet Hospital was the first dedicated facility for the elderly and was Queensland’s first modern hospice.
Brisbane City Council has granted approval to preliminary plans designed by Bickerton Masters and Gaskell Planning Consultants, lodged in 2021, to build five buildings, ranging from 15 to 19 storeys in height.
The first stage will offer three levels of parking. Stage two comprises the healthcare and residential care accommodation. Once completed and occupied, the buildings on the western side of the site will be demolished.
Three buildings are proposed residential with community, wellness and recreation amenities in each.
Following approval of the preliminary plans, a more detailed planning application will be prepared and lodged with the council.
