Uniting provides update on its plans for redeveloping retirement villages

Simon Furness, Uniting Director Property and Housing, has been kind enough to update us on the plans for retirement villages in Sydney’s Western Suburbs.

“The DA for the redevelopment of Edinglassie Retirement Village is currently with Penrith City Council. A decision is expected over the next few months with construction now likely to commence in Autumn 2024.

“Depending on the outcome of the DA, we will hopefully have some good news to share.”

The Weekly SOURCE reported in January the Emu Plains project, estimated at more than $91 million, will see the existing units and facilities – built in the 1970s – demolished and replaced with five buildings comprising 146 new units and a clubhouse, with 112 parking spaces. The development will complement Uniting’s recently completed 100-bed aged care home on the site, offering residents a continuum of care.

“There are currently no plans at this stage to undertake major works at our services in Penrith, Blacktown or Springwood. However, Uniting has recently completed the expansion of its Hawkesbury retirement and independent living village (pictured),” added Simon.

“This expansion saw an additional 37 independent living villas built on the site, together with a new independent living clubroom, café/kiosk, hairdressing salon and a playground.”

The 37 independent living units have been quickly occupied.
