Regis Aged Care lodges redevelopment plans for Bulimba site in Brisbane

1 min read

ASX-listed Regis Aged Care has submitted plans to Brisbane City Council for a new purpose-built aged care home on its Bulimba site, 4km northeast of the Brisbane CBD.

The redevelopment follows the announcement earlier this year that Regis would close its 50-year-old Bulimba aged care facility. The existing two-storey home, which includes 150 beds – some in shared rooms – will be replaced by a modern four-storey facility featuring 123 single rooms.

"Regis Bulimba will be redeveloped and replaced with a purpose-built contemporary aged care home that meets modern aged care requirements, standards, and community expectations," the provider stated on its website.

In response to community feedback, Regis revised the initial designs to include a range of improvements: redesigned balconies, increased boundary setbacks to minimise noise, additional planting to protect neighbours’ privacy, and greater retention of mature trees.

The proposed facility will feature a memory support unit, energy-efficient design, and a suite of resident amenities, including a café, library, cinema, lounge and dining areas, kitchen, and activity spaces.

Construction is expected to begin in mid-to-late 2025 and will take approximately two years, with the home set to open in 2027.

The Bulimba redevelopment comes as Regis significantly expands its development pipeline. Speaking at the Macquarie Australia Investment Conference in Sydney last month, the operator revealed plans for nine greenfield projects, representing 1,037 new beds – nearly double the pipeline disclosed in its February results.

Regis currently operates 68 aged care homes with around 7,600 available beds. In a move to diversify its services, the provider also acquired home care provider BodeWell Community Care from the Knowles Group in February, effectively doubling its home care footprint.
