With 40 aged care homes, including 13 acquired last year, the Not For Profit is embarking on a series of renovations of its residences.

After announcing a $17 million expansion and refurbishment of Avonlea Aged Care Home in Nhill, in the Wimmera region, 340km northwest of Melbourne, in November last year; and a $5 million refurbishment of Edward Collick Home in Kalgoorlie, 600km east of Perth, last month, Respect has announced a third project.

The organisation will spend $2.7 million to refurbish Cohuna Village, 274km north of Melbourne’s CBD. Construction begins on 16 February 2026, and will see 34 resident rooms, including bathrooms, modernised and refurbished over a two-year project period.

Previous upgrades carried out in 2024 at Cohuna Village increased the home’s capacity to 50 beds including a dedicated memory support unit, and also included the addition of a new café, upgraded courtyard, garden space and hair salon.

“Older Australians living in the regions deserve access to the same quality of facilities as metropolitan areas. This project ensures Cohuna Village continues to provide modern, resident-centred aged care that supports wellbeing, independence and dignity,” Respect CEO and Managing Director, Jason Binder, said.

“The refurbishment will be delivered in stages, with five rooms upgraded at a time to minimise disruption and maintain continuity of care. Residents will be relocated within the home to a newly constructed five-bed wing while rooms are being refurbished.”
