Developer Urbanlife bringing new Over 55s projects to Victoria

1 min read

Over 55s developer Urbanlife has lodged revised plans for a $105 million retirement village at Altona North in Melbourne.

The village, which will comprise 285 units across five buildings along with a public restaurant, a church, a childcare centre, and a community centre, has been scaled down from its original 326-unit proposal following consultations.

In the Development Application, planner Ratio said the village would be situated in a convenient location that would allow downsizers to age in place close to transport and services.

“Housing that specifically meets the needs of aging population is strongly encouraged by the planning scheme and the proposal will make a substantial contribution to the provision of housing for an ageing community.

“It also provides diversity in the type of housing that is offered to people of retirement age, noting the recent trend towards ‘vertical’ retirement villages as opposed to the traditional low scale template that requires vast expanses of land,” the planners wrote.

Urbanlife has three other projects in the pipeline – two in the Melbourne suburbs of Footscray and Vermont South, and one at Upper Ferntree Gully in the Dandenong Ranges.
