Uniting replaces assisted living with ILUs at Epping NSW development

1 min read

Uniting NSW.ACT has received approval for changes to its $86 million, 16-storey seniors living and aged care development at Epping in Sydney’s north, which will replace the proposed assisted living and care apartments at the site with 116 independent living units.

The continuum-of-care tower will now comprise 116 ILUs and 57 aged care beds, a change which town planner Ethos Urban wrote in the application reflected changes made to the design after the Royal Commission as well as “Uniting’s evolving definition of assisted living”.

“The replacement of ALAs and CAs with ILUs aligns with the aged-care industry’s move away from formalised low-care accommodation, with community care replacing this accommodation type to deliver care services into a resident’s accommodation of choice.

“The ILUs will enable residents to age in place whilst having access to support services available in the basement, ground floor and the residential aged-care facility on levels one and two,” the application read.

Uniting lodged its initial application in late 2018.
