Last Thursday the Retirement Living Council-led coalition of the RLC, Leading Age Services Australia (LASA) and Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA) released its draft voluntary Code of Conduct for retirement village operators, seeking feedback from operators, and the public.
On Sunday the NSW Government announced it will introduce a Code of Conduct and it will be mandatory.
Ben Myers, Executive Director of the Retirement Living Council, says the Retirement Living Code of Conduct, which has been supported by the Property Council, LASA and ACSA, demonstrates what can be achieved when the industry comes together to focus on residents.
“This is a great example of the industry demonstrating that it does listen, that it does have leadership, and that it is not waiting for regulations to force change”.
“But, when it comes to locking in the social license for retirement living into the future, more needs to be done”.
“To secure our social license, the industry needs to continue its commitment to implementing the 8-Point Plan”.
“Importantly, operators need to voluntarily commit to the Code of Conduct and we need to make sure we are working together to address industry issues before they become problems for government to fix”.
More detail on the Code of Conduct will be explained tomorrow in the special 12-month Fairfax/Four Corners anniversary newsletter.
