Aspen Group has announced the “sudden and unexpected passing” of Rupert Smoker, Founder, Managing Director and CEO of Evolution Trustees, on Thursday 18 September.
Evolution Trustees serves as the Responsible Entity for Aspen Property Trust, holding its assets on behalf of investors and managing the trust’s operations.
Aspen Group Joint CEOs John Carter and David Dixon paid tribute to Rupert as a leader whose influence extended across the sector.
“Rupert was a visionary who led by example, embodied client commitment, deep expertise, and genuine care for others,” they said. “He was a respected leader, whose influence extended far beyond our profession. Our deepest sympathies go out to Rupert's family, friends and colleagues.”
Evolution Trustees issued its own statement, describing Rupert as a leader who combined professionalism with humanity.
“With deep regret at the loss of our CEO Rupert Smoker, we remember him for his kindness, generosity, and the lasting impact he had on everyone who worked alongside him,” the statement read. “As a visionary leader, he built Evolution Trustees into a proudly Australian-owned business, leading with unwavering commitment to clients and genuine care for his team.”
To honour Rupert’s life, his family has chosen to support Hagar Australia, an organisation dedicated to building communities free from the trauma of human trafficking, slavery and abuse. “This cause reflects Rupert’s spirit and the values he held dear,” Evolution Trustees said.
