Resident Don Halliday, Aveo CEO Tony Randello, resident Kerri Anne Degruchy and Helen Ostler, Hills Shire Mayor Dr Michelle Byrne and Deputy Mayor Councillor Frank De Masi cut the ribbon.

When the retirement village operator opened the first building Waratah in the masterplanned seniors living community in 2018, just seven of the 64 apartments were sold.

The June 2017 ABC Four Corners and then Fairfax Media investigation into Aveo demolished most village sector sales by up to 30% which dragged on for three years.

Four years on, Waratah is now sold out and when CEO Tony Randello opened the second building, the Growthbuilt-Corymbia Residences last Tuesday, 9 December, 72 of the 83 apartments had already been sold. The swimming pool in its own building, with two infrared saunas, has also opened.

“Its a great testament to what’s been delivered here, and to the sales team and to residents for referring friends, because I know that many of you that have joined us here at Bella Vista,” Tony said.

The result is due in part to Aveo’s Head of Sales, Natalie Moore, and her team, and former Head of Marketing and Communications, Bridgid Allsopp, but perhaps also to older Australians’ growing willingness for maintenance-free vertical living.

In the past six weeks, the DCM Group has been present at the opening of VMCH's St Clare retirement village in Kew, Melbourne, Hyegrove Willoughby and Levande's The Cambridge, the world's third highest retirement village, both in Sydney.

The continuum of care model advocated by many operators is also growing. The next building to be constructed at Bella Vista Haven will be a residential aged care home operated by Opal HealthCare.

Hyegrove Willoughby has an integrated 46-suite aged care component; while the 123-bed Epping Grand, which occupies the first six floors of The Cambridge, is operated by Opal HealthCare.

The latest PwC/Retirement Living Council Census stated over the next three years, around 7,200 new retirement living units are expected to be delivered, with more than half of the planned supply being vertical or multi-level residences.
