In the upcoming edition of SATURDAY, the new Chief Executive Officer of Aged & Community Providers Association (ACCPA), Tom Symondson, reveals his life-long association with aged care.
Tom gained extensive professional aged care experience in his role as CEO of the Victorian HealthCare Association, the peak body for Victoria’s public hospital system which has around 5,500 residential aged care beds.
But his connection with aged care goes back to his childhood, when he spent school holidays living on site in aged care homes his grandmother managed.
ACCPA currently has 1,100 members, but Tom hopes to increase the peak’s reach.
Travelling around the country speaking to providers, Tom is hearing that staff shortages are leading some providers to make the difficult decision to leave beds empty – compounding already challenging financial circumstances.
