Summerset’s second continuum of care village takes shape in Melbourne’s Chirnside Park

New Zealand-based operator Summerset Group has provided an update on its $146 million retirement community under construction in Chirnside Park, 38km east of Melbourne’s CBD.

Project Manager Melinda Davey said civil works are nearing completion and the first independent living units have reached lock-up stage. “The first of our Independent Living Units are in their final phases. Sales are due to commence in November 2025 and the village is due to open in Q2 2026,” she said.

The 9.2ha site will ultimately accommodate 600 residents and feature:

  • 192 independent living units
  • Two four-storey apartment buildings
  • A 100-bed aged care home, including specialist memory care
  • Serviced apartments for residents needing extra support
  • Onsite amenities including a swimming pool, gym, theatre and salon

The project is Summerset’s second Australian development, following Cranbourne North, where the first residents moved in April 2024. Construction of that village’s centre is expected to begin in early 2026 and will include a cinema, pool, café, bowling green, residents’ bar, assisted living apartments and a residential aged care facility.

Summerset has also secured five additional Victorian sites for its continuum of care model at Torquay, Craigieburn, Oakleigh South, Mirnda and Drysdale.
