Consumer trust in residential aged care lacking, strong leadership needed – QPS Benchmarking

There’s a dearth of quality leadership in residential aged care, according to new research that examines the clinical governance of residential aged care between 2017 and 2019.

The QPS Benchmarking Residential Aged Care Performance Report 2020 suggests trust in residential aged care by consumers is lacking and will only be restored by key improvements in Leadership and Governance and the Clinical Workforce.

“Quality leadership is lacking across residential aged care. Industry leaders of the future must be agile, inclusive, focused, responsive and able to navigate complex systems,” the report states.

The research drew data drew data from 13,714 residents, 11,645 relatives and 19,655 employees between 2017 and 2019.

The paper comes with a raft of recommendations, which include:

  • Whole of business governance
  • Enhance consumer facing employee capability
  • Support for Relations
  • Leadership
