HammondCare CEO Mike Baird travelled to Australia House in London to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between three residential aged care providers to champion the Small House model across the globe. The other members are the UK’s Belong Villages and America’s The Green House® Project (GHP). The new group is the Household Model International Consortium (HMIC).
The Green House Project, a Not For Profit, has over 20 years developed 400 ‘small scale, self-contained and self-sufficient’ cottage-like homes across 32 US states. See picture above: it is not dissimilar to Tamar Krebs’ Group Homes Australia which now has 21 small group homes across Sydney.
Belong Villages (pictured) has eight locations in the UK. HammondCare has 13 aged care homes here in Australia.
The Consortium says that it wishes to share and promote their collective experience in small household models of care. They will also conduct research and develop strategic papers that position the small household model as the optimum for better resident outcomes.
