The clock is ticking to 1 November. With the new Aged Care Act just weeks away, Ageing Australia CEO Tom Symondson has a blunt message: optimism isn’t enough.
In an exclusive interview with SATURDAY, Tom named three hurdles that providers must clear before the switch:

Rules in limbo – providers can’t issue compliant agreements until draft rules become law.

ICT untested – payment systems won’t be stress-tested until the day they go live.

Packages unclear – 40,000 new Home Care Packages are coming, but providers don’t know when or where.
But he says the sector must also look beyond November. Ageing Australia is developing its own blueprint: a “continuum of ageing” that integrates housing, home care and residential services into one strategy.
