The Melbourne-based business which owns and operates Anchor Point community in Warrnambool, the town on the Great Ocean Road, is spending $8 million to add another 27 units due to the demand.

Anchor Point is positioned as an ‘Over 55 living community’ and its website promotes lock and leave independent living, but in the detail it acknowledges that it is a retirement village and care support will occur as your needs change.

"We could probably build three times the amount of units and still have them sold comfortably," Managing Director Tim Scarborough said.

"We've got a really big waiting list. The demand is massive. Extraordinary.

"We've had a waiting list for quite a few years. But now actually it's big, and getting bigger and bigger."
