Warrigal takes over Multicultural Aged Care Illawarra

NSW-based Not For Profit aged care provider Warrigal is taking over Multicultural Aged Care Illawarra (MACI), including its 100-bed residential aged care home and eight retirement living units at Warrawong.

MACI, which was sanctioned by the ACQSC last year, has run multiculturally-focused aged care services in the NSW Illawarra region for 33 years. According to MACI CEO Stephen Beard, compliance requirements and COVID-19 had left the provider unviable as a standalone organisation.

“MACI was built from the ground up with no other intention than to provide essential services to older people in our local region.

“This merger is just a further development to this history, and one that everyone should feel happy and secure with Warrigal’s backing and understanding of our mission,” he said.

MACI at Warrawong will become Warrigal’s 12th residential aged care home, with a gradual transition and handover to take place over the next six months.
