Brisbane City Council has approved its plans to re-develop the existing 66 villas and 41 services apartments at Carindale, 10km east of the CBD, with six buildings up to 10 storeys.
The proposal for the 29,340sqm site includes 417 independent living units plus a 115-bed aged care facility, medical centre, café and 500 car park spaces.
Aveo Group Developments general manager Gary Kordic told the Courier Mail the operator was keen to cater for the ‘full spectrum’ of retirement living.
It’s the 13th aged care facility approved since Council introduced incentives in September last year to boost bed numbers.
City Planning chairman Julian Simmonds said 2,040 beds had now been approved, but more are still needed.
“We need 3,600 beds [built] every year,” he said. “Every year we don’t meet that target ... we fall further behind in our obligation to our ageing residents.”
