Barbara Eckersley who killed her mother at Warrigal Bundanoon avoids jail

The daughter who poisoned and killed her mother, acclaimed environmental scientist Dr Mary White (pictured above), in her bed at Warrigal Bundanoon in NSW’s Southern Highlands and was found guilty of manslaughter has been spared jail.

The actions of 69-year-old Barbara Eckersley were “both an act of love, and of despair,” said NSW Supreme Court Justice Robert Beech-Jones. Ms Eckersley added drugs used to euthanise animals into her mother’s soup and then spoon fed it to her at the aged care facility in August 2018.

"(Eckersley) is in a sense fully rehabilitated and is not a danger to the community," said Justice Beech-Jones.
