Cap on student work hours resumes after being lifted during COVID-19

1 min read

Residential aged care operators are facing a further challenge ahead of the new financial year with changes to student visas expected to affect many that are reliant on overseas workers.

Work restrictions on student visa holders will resume on 1 July 2023, but holders of student visas will now be able to work at an increased rate of 48 hours per fortnight.

During COVID-19 and amid severe workforce shortages, the cap was removed, allowing student visa holders to work over their then-limit of 40 hours per fortnight.

Though workforce shortages remain, students will once again have to balance their work and study commitments in order to comply with their visa requirements but are able to work an additional eight hours per fortnight.
