Earle Haven latest - plans to expand

1 min read

Less than two months after 70 residents were evacuated from its nursing home wing, there are now plans to expand the Earle Haven retirement village.

The initial plans were drawn up in June, just weeks before the village’s higher care facility was evacuated following a dispute between the owner and care providers but did not affect the independent living homes.

At the Royal Commission hearing in Brisbane, at the beginning of the month, Earle Haven owner, Arthur Miller gave evidence about what happened in the preceding days to the July fiasco.

The aged care facility at Earle Haven has a long history of critical reviews by the regulator, dating back to 2006.

However, the proposed plan is for three-bedroom units that would be built on the Mount Street side of the complex, with four on ground level and the remaining four on the first levels.

The plans were submitted to the Gold Coast City Council last week and will go before the council’s planning committee for approval later this year.

An interesting development, to say the least, on several fronts.
