Not For Profit Victorian aged care provider mecwacare has acquired the 51-bed Allanvale Private Nursing Home, located in Altona Meadows, 17km southwest of the Melbourne CBD.

Previously owned by Carewest Group Pty Ltd, operated by the Merange family, the facility was built in 2014 and will now operate as mecwacare Allanvale.

The acquisition brings mecwacare’s residential aged care portfolio to 22 homes across Victoria. The provider, established 65 years ago, also supports more than 1,800 home care clients.

mecwacare already operates mecawcare Squires Place, a 60-bed facility in nearby Altona North, which it has managed since 2021.

James Cramond (pictured right), mecware's Executive General Manager – Strategy and Transformation, said the acquisition marks a strategic milestone for the organisation.

“This is an important step in mecwacare’s growth strategy. It reflects our ongoing commitment to meeting rising demand for aged care in this rapidly growing region, while expanding our footprint."

mecwacare has significantly expanded its portfolio through acquisitions in recent years. In 2023, it acquired four homes from Royal Freemasons – Flora Hill, Susan Barton House, Wahroonga, and The Pines. In February 2024, it added a vacant home in Bendigo, and it is currently undertaking a $30 million redevelopment of its Ballan aged care home, acquired in 2021.
