Sean Rooney’s farewell as CEO of defunct peak body LASA

Departing Leading Age Services Australia (LASA) CEO Sean Rooney says he has “given his all” in the role as he prepares for his exit.

“As CEO I have been challenged and rewarded in many ways. I am immensely proud of what we have achieved. Initially as LASA, and then through the Australian Aged Care Collaboration (AACC) and now, with a view to the future, as ACCPA,” said Sean (pictured) on LinkedIn.

“As I have often said, the issues of ageing and aged care are issues of national importance. This means that ACCPA is an organisation of national importance. How we care for our elders speaks to who we are as a nation and ACCPA has a leadership role to play in ensuring we get this right for older Australians now and into the future.”

Aged and Community Care Providers Association (ACCPA) was formed to try to unify the sector providers and provide a single lobby group on behalf of the industry; however, it lacks most of the faith-based organisations.

“Looking forward, there is much work to do in order to deliver on the promise that ACCPA heralds.  There is no nobler call than to serve others and I am immensely grateful for the amazing, professional and compassionate people who give of themselves selflessly in the service of our elders,” Sean said.

“My strongest desire is that through ACCPA’s work your efforts will be recognised and you will finally be resourced and enabled so you can shine even brighter in the lives of those in your care.”

Sean had been LASA CEO for almost six-and-a-half years; his final day is 28 October.
