TriCare gains approval to add another level below ground at planned development in Brisbane

The O’Shea family’s TriCare has been given approval to add a belowground floor to its already permitted three-building high-rise aged care and retirement living centre in Taringa, in Brisbane’s inner-west.

in September 2019 Queensland’s Planning and Environment Court approved Tricare’s development after the Queensland-based company agreed to reduce the size of the facility on an 11,830sqm block following a rejection of the original plan by Brisbane City Council.

The Council has approved a plan to build another level belowground for an additional 28 beds in the residential aged care facility (for a total of 226 beds), and five more independent and assisted living units (for a total of 77).

TriCare said in a statement on 30 August that demolition and civil works are expected to commence before the end of the year, with construction on the residential aged care building to start next year and be operational in 2024.

“TriCare Taringa will offer very high standards of accommodation and services allowing the elderly to remain within their local community,” said the company.

“The aged care service will include multiple activity and function spaces, an art room, a theatre, a café, day spa, and hairdresser.”

TriCare also agreed to reduce the heights of the three towers. The first building was reduced from 16 storeys to seven, with the number of units reduced from 98 to 40.

The second building was reduced from 14 storeys to seven, with units reduced from 53 to 32, while the third building was also reduced to seven storeys and the number of residential care beds cut to 198.
