Unit fire averted at Victorian retirement village

A neighbour has prevented a fire from spreading at a Wangaratta retirement village after its owner left something cooking on the stove while he went across to the village community centre.

She heard the smoke alarm, called the fire brigade and went in to turn off the stove.

Another reminder for operators to warn residents to be alert around their homes.
