Not for Profit community organisations and local governments are being encouraged to undertake initiatives that build older people’s links to the community.
Western Australian Government, the first Australian jurisdiction to become an Affiliate of the World Health Organisation Global Network of Age-friendly Cities and Communities, will make $220,000 available in grants of up to $15,000.
The grants will go to supporting projects that challenge ageism, reduce loneliness, and improve older people's connections within their community.
"Western Australians are living longer and with our population ageing there is a greater need than ever to ensure people's environments are age-friendly so they can access the activities and services they require to be able to live fulfilling lives,” said Seniors and Ageing Minister Don Punch in a statement.
"An age-friendly approach supports this, and the Age-Friendly Communities Connectivity Grants Program will ensure a collaborative approach for local governments and Not for Profit organisations to implement a range of seniors-related strategies that promote positive ageing."
