Build to Rent plans now are announced weekly, but this is a first – Build to Rent to Own.
Assemble and builder Hacer Group has begun the construction of 199 Build to Rent to Own apartments in Kensington, at Thompson Street, Kensington, 3km from Melbourne’s CBD.
The project is the first in the Assemble Futures pipeline to receive equity investment from
AustralianSuper, Australia’s largest superannuation fund. A pilot project, also in Kensington, was built in 2022.
The Build to Rent to Own model aims to provide moderate-income households with a pathway to homeownership through long-term rental agreements with the option to purchase at a predetermined price in the future.
AustralianSuper has also committed to the third Assemble Futures project, with 171
apartments at Brunswick. It will also support the acquisition of three new Assemble Future sites in Brunswick, Coburg and Footscray, providing over 1000 additional Build to Rent to Own homes.
