Brisbane doubles its number of retirement and aged care developments under new incentives

1 min read

The city’s Council has approved 10 developments in just six months under incentives launched for villages and aged care last September.

That’s compared to just 49 between 2010 and 2015 or an average of around ten a year.

These changes include a 33% reduction in infrastructure charges for three years; an extra two-storey allowance in medium- and high-density locations; and a guarantee on a decision on an application within 90 business days.

A $37.5M aged care development at Taigum in Brisbane’s north is the latest to be approved.

The 140-bed facility, which includes a mix of two- and three-storey buildings, will be built by the McKenzie Aged Care Group, a family-run provider with 15 aged care facilities and two retirement villages across QLD, NSW and VIC.
