Expansion of Ocean Gardens City Beach retirement village in Perth approved

1 min read

Town of Cambridge Deputy Mayor Ben Mayes and Director of Planning & Community Services Luke Gibson expressed their "deep disappointment" following the Western Australian Planning Commission’s Statutory Planning Committee approval of Not For Profit Ocean Gardens' development application on 14 May 2025.

Planning Solutions, on behalf of Ocean Gardens, submitted the proposal outlining Hames Sharley-designed plans for 55 apartments across three buildings, including 24 independent living units and 31 standard residential apartments without age restrictions, ranging from one-bedroom, one-bathroom units with private courtyards to three-bedroom configurations.

The site is part of the Ocean Gardens Retirement Village, which contains 235 homes and associated infrastructure. Eight independent living units within the retirement village will be demolished to make way for the proposed three buildings. Two buildings of four and six storeys would house the residential apartments and a four-storey block would accommodate the independent living units.
