OneCare eyes major retirement living expansion at Port Sorell aged care facility in Tasmania

1 min read

The Not For Profit aged care provider has lodged a $45 million development application with the local Latrobe Council to build 84 new independent living units at its Rubicon Grove site in Port Sorell.

The plan also includes a 34-bed extension to the existing aged care facility, bringing the total of number of beds to 114 on Tasmania's north-central coast.

OneCare CEO Peter Williams said the independent living units will be the first at Rubicon Grove.

"We believe strongly in giving the community choices when it comes to aged care options, particularly with increasing demand for aged care services, and being able to assist people to live independently for as long as possible is a critical part of our aged care platform," he said.

The units would surround the existing facility and include three blocks of 10 three-storey units and a two-storey communal residence for staff with six bedrooms.

OneCare has five aged care facilities in Tasmania and two retirement villages in Glenorchy and Kings Meadows.
