Scott Scoullar, CEO of one of the biggest retirement village operators in New Zealand, said its first continuum of care home in Australia, in Cranbourne North, 39km southeast of Melbourne’s CBD, will start construction immediately on the first homes.
Across the Tasman Sea, Summerset Group reported the tough trading conditions that exist in the retirement sector, with a fall in sales.
“While new sales are lower than the first quarter of 2022, we only delivered 57 new homes in the first quarter of 2023.
“We continue to be on track for delivering 625 to 675 new homes in 2023.”
Summerset has 38 villages completed or in development nationwide, five proposed sites in New Zealand and seven sites in VIC. It has a development application approved for a site in Chirnside, 32km northeast of Melbourne’s CBD, and has lodged new plans for a village in the seaside town of Torquay.
