IRT Group to submit new DA for Towradgi village on NSW South Coast, including garage conversion potential to carer accommodation

1 min read

Not for Profit IRT Group will submit a new development application to redevelop its Towradgi retirement village, 5km north of Wollongong on NSW South Coast.

The original DA, lodged in November last year, was withdrawn just before the Southern Regional Planning Panel was due to meet last Tuesday to determine the application.

IRT CEO Patrick Reid said the withdrawal was necessary as IRT was still working with Wollongong City Council on raised road levels to address concerns surrounding maximum flood levels at the site.

The redeveloped village, to be known as Elements at IRT Towradgi Beach, will still go ahead with the  Wollongong-based company looking at resubmitting a DA next month.

He added each villa was "designed to support ageing-in-place" with such features as minimal trip hazards, appliances at easy-to-reach heights, and garages attached to some homes that can be converted to carer's accommodation.
