Australia’s Governor-General, His Excellency David Hurley (pictured, above right) cut the ribbon on the building, which was designed by Woods Bagot and features an Australian-first mix of retirement living, specialist short- and long-term disability accommodation, conference and function spaces, offices, social services, and hospitality and retail outlets.

As well as six floors of 41 high-rise retirement apartments, U City is also home to 21 specialist disability accommodation apartments, an 18-apartment bespoke short-stay ‘hotel’ facility equipped for people living with a disability and Adelaide’s first 24/7 Changing Places, a best-practice bathroom for those living with a disability requiring changing facilities in the inner city.

The building is also rated Adelaide’s greenest with a Green Star 6-star rating.

“We had a bold vision for what U City could be as an example of creating a community that could - genuinely and practically – live and work together,” Uniting Communities’ Chief Executive, Simon Schrapel (pictured, above centre), said.
