New retirement village with aged care proposed for Torquay, VIC

1 min read

A new retirement village and aged care home have been proposed for the Briody Estate West development in Torquay, on the Victorian Surf Coast.

Originally planned as a residential subdivision, the developer, Briody Drive Project Pty Ltd, has applied to alter the proposal to include 231 independent living units, 60 independent and assisted living apartments, and an 80-bed residential aged care facility on the area shown in maroon above.

“The proposed development plan will also actively support the delivery of key housing policies… by encouraging a diversity of housing product to meet the needs of the future community and broader municipality,” town planner Tract wrote in its report for the developer.

“This includes the delivery of residential aged care facilities to allow ageing residents of Torquay more opportunities to ‘age in place’.”

Surf Coast Shire Council has been contacted for comment; the shire earlier this year gave in-principle support to the sale of land for another village in Torquay.
